Here are some news & research highlights from August:
- Scott Shenker was appointed the first chief scientist at ICSI.
- "Bro Exchange," a conference for Bro users organized by ICSI's Bro team, was held in Boulder, Colorado.
- Nelson Morgan was interviewed about Nina on marketplace.org.
- Several new papers were published in August, including one that was presented at the USENIX Security Symposium in Bellevue, Washington. ICSI's Christian Kreibich served on the program committee for this conference.
- Several new research projects started: one that studies how background noise and speaking rate affect human recognition of speech, another on parallelism across the deep packet inspection (DPI) pipeline, one on the design and implementation of a consolidated middlebox architecture, and one on limiting manipulation in data centers and the cloud.
- Version 2.1 of the Bro Intrusion Detection System was released.
- On our blog, we posted tips for protetcting privacy when posting online, from cybercasing researcher Gerald Friedland.
