Chuck Wooters received his bachelor's degree in linguistics from UC Berkeley in 1986. He completed his master's degree in linguistics in 1988 (also at UC Berkeley) and then began working at ICSI as a graduate student researcher in the Realization Group (later renamed the Speech Group). After completing his doctorate in "Speech Recognition" in 1993, he went on to hold various research positions in government, industry, and academia, including positions with the U.S. Department of Defense, BBN Technologies, ICSI, Computer Motion Inc., Next IT Corp, and the Human Language Technology Center of Excellence at Johns Hopkins University. His research interests range from speech recognition to spoken language understanding and dialog, machine learning, and system prototyping. Chuck returned to ICSI in July of 2012 as a senior researcher.
