David Mongeau
David Mongeau joined as Founding Director, School of Data Science and Professor of Practice, University College, at The University of Texas at San Antonio. He is accountable for leading the School of Data Science to the forefront of data science research, education, and value creation for government, industry, and community partners. David was previously Executive Director, Berkeley Institute for Data Science, University of California, Berkeley; co-led the data analytics institute at The Ohio State University; and championed the concept and original proposal for a new company launched with $42M from seven corporations to meet their advanced analytics and cybersecurity needs.
The company is now Covail. A decade ago, David completed a 25+ year career in communications, data, IT, and networking research at Bell Labs (Alcatel, Lucent, AT&T). He finished while launching a global consulting practice for digital transformation and began by working on the first C++ language compiler. David often speaks about data science workforce development strategies. He is engaged in child advocacy (guardian ad litem) and suicide prevention (Samaritans, Inc.). He holds a BS from Carnegie Mellon University, an MS from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and an MBA from the Krannert School of Management at Purdue University.
