Krste Asanović received his bachelor’s degree in electrical and information sciences from the University of Cambridge in 1987 and was named a Churchill Scholar by Churchill College at Cambridge in 1987. He was then a research engineer at the GEC Hirst Research Center in London for two years. He attended graduate school at UC Berkeley, working for ICSI as a student in the Realization Group (later renamed the Speech Group). After receiving his doctorate in computer science in 1998, he was appointed assistant professor of electrical engineering and computer science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, receiving tenure in 2005. In 2007, he returned to Berkeley to accept a position as associate professor of computer science at UC Berkeley and to establish the Architecture Group at ICSI. He has a joint appointment with the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and is a co-founder and member of the UC Berkeley Parallel Computing Laboratory. He received an NSF CAREER Award in 2001, an Okawa Foundation Research Grant in 2007, and the 2010 Jim and Donna Gray Faculty Award for Undergraduate Teaching from UC Berkeley’s Computer Science Division. He is a 2011 ACM Distinguished Scientist and a senior member of the IEEE. He has served on the ACM SIGARCH Board of Directors and on the ISAT advisory board for the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency. His research interests include computer architecture, VLSI design, and parallel programming and run time systems.
