Vani Mandava

Vani Mandava, a computer engineer, is the Head of Engineering for the Scientific Software Engineering Center, eScience Institute at the University of Washington. The primary mission of SSEC is to collaborate with researchers from UW and around the world to create visionary, innovative and resilient solutions for pressing research and societal challenges. She is responsible for setting up the SSEC organization and partnering with research investigators to define the priorities and execution of software infrastructure that will strengthen the scientific software community. Prior to joining UW in September 2022, Vani spent over two decades at Microsoft, most recently as Director of Data Science with Microsoft Research Outreach managing a portfolio of AI and data science research collaborations with academia. She has extensive experience shipping software that scales across clients, enterprise, and cloud services.
