Abstract:
Internet measurements are a useful tool in gaining a better understanding of the Internet and its security properties. In this talk we will explore techniques to conduct Internet-wide measurements on various protocols.We then assess the security properties of SSH, TLS, and IPMI protocols. We also investigate the amplification potential of the building automation protocol BACnet and provide possibilities for remediation. Finally, we delve into scans in the IPv6 Internet which presents us with new challenges.
Speaker Bio:
Oliver Gasser is a scientific researcher at the Chair of Network Architectures and Services at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), Germany.He is co-leading the Global Internet Observatory project which aims to better understand the Internet and its security by conducting Internet-wide measurements. Oliver's research interests are empirical analysis of network security protocols such as TLS and SSH, amplification attack detection and mitigation, and more recently network scans in the IPv6 Internet. Oliver received his M.Sc. from TUM in 2013 and is a PhD candidate at TUM.
