Wolfgang WahlsterICSI Board Member Wolfgang Wahlster has been honored with the 2016 ICMI Sustained Accomplishment Award and will deliver a keynote at ICMI 2016. This prestigious award is given to a senior scientist who has made innovative, long-lasting, and influential contributions to defining the field of multimodal/multimedia interaction, interfaces, and system development. Wolfgang Wahlster's contributions on multimodal architecture and practical multimodal systems are visionary and influenced many follow-up projects. Previous recipients are Sharon Oviatt and Eric Horvitz.

Remembering Norbert Szyperski, 1931 - 2016

Among the many accomplishments which punctuated Norbert Szyperski’s life, the founding of ICSI took a special place.  It was an acknowledgement of what he had taken away from his year in the US as an Eisenhower Fellow in 1962 and the openness with which he was received in the course of his fellowship.

Usable Security and Privacy Researchers Win Three Awards at CHI 2016

ICSI Adopts New Leadership Model

ICSI has adopted a new leadership model: Maria Eugenia Quintana is now the Institute’s Executive Director.  She, in conjunction with Chief Scientist Scott Shenker form a leadership council that includes Prof. Michael Mahoney, Controller Sharon Parker, and Prof. Vern Paxson.  Our previous Director Deborah Crawford is now the Vice President of Research at George Mason University.

Researchers Find Large Gaps in Email Security

Researchers at The University of Sydney (Australia), ICSI (USA), Data61 (Australia), and the Technical University of Munich (Germany) have found that while email sent between users of major providers is relatively secure, email sent by other providers is poorly protected in transit, with weaknesses in cryptographic setups and authentication.
