In Memoriam: Norbert Szyperski
It is with great regret that we announce the passing of one of ICSI's founders, Norbert Szyperski, on May 17th. The idea to create an international computer science research institute developed through his conversations with Ron Kay, and his lobbying convinced the German government and German companies to fund the institute. Since ICSI's founding, Szyperski remained actively involved with the institute, serving on the Board of Trustees for many years, and frequently visiting the institute. To say that he will be missed is an understatement - perhaps Ron Kay said it best, in an article about Szyperski in celebration of our 25th anniversary: “Szyperski was never paid for what he did for ICSI,” Kay said. “But what the man did was phenomenal.”
