Dr. Alexander Titus Appointed to National Security Commission on Emerging Biotechnology
Dr. Alexander Titus, an ICSI PI working on biotechnology and security, was appointed to the National Security Commission on Emerging Biotechnology on March 17, 2022. Dr. Titus is one of eight individuals nominated by bipartisan leadership of the House and Senate Armed Services Committees. The Commission was established by Sec. 1091 of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2022 (FY22) and will "conduct a thorough review of how advances in emerging biotechnology and related technologies will shape current and future activities of the Department of Defense, provide an interim report to the President of the United States and the Armed Services Committees within one year, and submit a final unclassified report within two years to the President and the committees, including recommendations for action by Congress and the federal government."
"It's humbling to be appointed to the National Security Commission on Biotechnology. I have been working at the intersection of computing, biotechnology, and national security for much of my career, and the opportunity to work with great people to think critically about how we should be investing in and leveraging biotechnology across defense and national security is an awesome opportunity," said Dr. Titus.
